Our take
Why Firecrawl
A small YC devtools team whose FDE ships integrations for one of the agent stack's most-used primitives — high leverage, modest cash, remote-friendly.

A good fit if you're…
- Integration-minded engineers who like shipping code customers run the same week
- Devtools people who'd rather build against APIs than sit in steering committees
- Remote candidates in the Americas who still want startup equity
What they do
Firecrawl turns arbitrary websites into clean, LLM-ready data — crawl, scrape, and extract behind one API. It has become a default building block for agent and RAG developers, which means its customers are mostly engineers, not procurement committees.
What “forward deployed” means here
This is integrations work: building and shipping the connectors and customer-specific pipelines that get Firecrawl into production stacks. With developer buyers, the FDE is closer to a product engineer with a customer queue than a consultant — less executive scoping, more code. A second, broader FDE seat on the board suggests the function is being built out, not backfilled.
Comp & leveling
$160K–$220K for SF-based hires (location-adjusted elsewhere) plus up to 0.10% equity; the sibling FDE seat runs $150K–$250K. That's fair startup cash but well below lab tiers, and 0.10% is a late-seed/Series A-sized grant rather than a founding one — price it accordingly.
Growth signals
Standing up deployed engineering because inbound demand outruns headcount is the healthiest reason to hire FDEs. The risk is platform: web-data extraction is increasingly contested by labs and browser-agent vendors, so the bet is that Firecrawl stays the neutral primitive developers reach for.
