Our take
Why GitLab
The most sustainable FDE role on the board: all-remote, public-company stable, and heavy on self-hosted infra rather than hype.

A good fit if you're…
- Infra engineers comfortable with self-hosted and air-gapped deployments
- Candidates outside major hubs who need a truly global-remote seat
- People who value async culture and sane hours over lottery-ticket equity
What they do
GitLab (NASDAQ: GTLB) sells the DevSecOps platform, and its AI layer is GitLab Duo, now including the generally available Duo Agent Platform for agentic automation across the software lifecycle. The company reported fiscal 2026 revenue of about $955M, up 26%, and crossed $1B ARR.
What “forward deployed” means here
FDEs deploy Duo into large engineering organizations, and a lot of those customers run GitLab self-managed or air-gapped — regulated industries, government, finance. That makes the job more infra and platform engineering than prompt tuning: model hosting, network constraints, and fitting agents into existing CI/CD.
Comp & leveling
The board lists $180K–$310K TC for a global remote seat. GitLab is known for location-based pay, so the top of the band realistically lands with US candidates; public RSUs make the number more bankable than startup equity, if lower-ceiling.
Growth signals
Revenue growth in the mid-20s at $1B+ ARR, positive free cash flow and a buyback show a healthy public company. The AI story is the swing factor: Duo competes directly with Copilot, Cursor and a crowd of coding agents, so the FDE team exists to prove adoption inside accounts GitLab already owns.
