Our take

Why PhysicsX

One of the few FDE seats where deep simulation/ML beats SaaS-integration chops — and one of the most travel-heavy on the board.

A good fit if you're…

  • Simulation, CAE, or physics-ML engineers who want to go customer-facing
  • People energized by aerospace/defense/semis problems, not SaaS onboarding
  • Engineers who genuinely want heavy on-site travel across continents

What they do

PhysicsX (London HQ) builds an AI-native engineering platform — models that predict physical behavior in seconds instead of hours — for aerospace, defense, semiconductors, automotive, materials and data-center customers. The forward-deployed software engineer takes that platform into high-stakes engineering environments and tunes it to each customer's problems.

What “forward deployed” means here

This is true FDE work with an unusually deep technical floor: you embed to build and tune physics/ML workflows on the platform, and you travel roughly 3–4 weeks a quarter to customer sites across North America, Europe, Asia and Oceania. The bar rewards Python, PyTorch/TensorFlow, cloud and Kubernetes plus real simulation intuition — not the usual API-integration profile.

Comp & leveling

$180K–$250K base plus equity for the NYC-based seat — competitive for a technically deep late-stage role, though the travel load is a real part of the compensation calculus. Equity is post-Series-C paper, not liquid.

Growth signals

PhysicsX closed an oversubscribed $300M Series C led by Temasek at roughly a $2.4B valuation in June 2026, with NVIDIA, Siemens, Applied Materials and General Catalyst on the cap table. The company reports doubled revenue and a team past 300 — a well-funded scale-up placing bets on Large Physics Models, so field seats should multiply.
