Our take
Why EY
The widest funnel into FDE — EY trains engineers without deployment experience, pays below product companies, and works best as an 18-month springboard.
- FDE type
- GTM hybrid
- Travel
- High
- Comp
- Below market
- Stage
- Public
A good fit if you're…
- Engineers without prior AI-deployment experience who want a way in
- Consultants who want to move toward hands-on building
- People who want global office options and a clear exit path to product companies
What they do
EY is one of the Big Four professional-services firms, and its AI consulting practice delivers AI deployments for clients across industries. It launched dedicated FDE roles in April 2026.
What “forward deployed” means here
FDEs deliver client AI deployments inside a consulting engagement model, so scope, staffing and timelines come from the statement of work, not a product roadmap. It is closer to a consulting-delivery hybrid than a product-company embed; we tagged it gtm-hybrid as the closest fit.
Comp & leveling
The board shows $160K–$280K TC — below product-company FDE bands at the top end, but the band is wide and the bar to entry is lower. Consulting leveling (senior, manager, senior manager) matters more than the FDE title for pay.
Growth signals
A Big Four firm creating an FDE job family is a market signal that clients want builders, not slide decks. The practical value for candidates is volume and training: it is the most accessible first step on the board.
