Our take

Why Ireland

A Dublin-centred market where platform companies and the Big Four hire FDEs, mostly as one location among several.

Market depth: Niche
Remote: Medium
Comp: Undisclosed

A good fit if you're…

Engineers who want a Dublin base inside a global platform
Senior AI/ML leaders (7+ years) for regulated-industry deployments
Candidates open to multi-country remote or hybrid listings

The scene

Ireland is a niche FDE market anchored by Dublin. Few roles are Ireland-only: Intercom lists Dublin alongside London and San Francisco, MongoDB lists Ireland among several European and remote locations, and Alguna's remote seat is open to Irish residents.

Who hires here

The one Ireland-specific seat is EY's Senior Manager, AI & Data Forward Deployed AI Engineer in Dublin, aimed at regulated environments. Platform and SaaS companies (Intercom, MongoDB) fill out the rest of the board.

Comp context

Pay is undisclosed on the Irish listings, so benchmark against UK and EU bands for the same seniority. Multi-location roles may pay by location tier, which is worth asking about early.

$118K–$231K (Senior Staff to ~$297K)

When the database layer starts hiring FDEs, the pattern is officially infrastructure-wide. MongoDB (NASDAQ: MDB) just stood up a Forward Deployed Engineering org from scratch — Atlas plus AI app-modernization — spanning seven-plus geos on two continents. IC band $118K–$231K, Senior Staff reaching ~$297K.

Alguna

Forward Deployed Engineer

$80K–$125K

Alguna (YC S23) is rebuilding B2B quote-to-cash — CPQ, usage metering, billing — and its FDE ships customer integrations end-to-end across CRMs and ERPs. At $80K–$125K it's the low end of the FDE band, but it's a genuine early-stage, remote-across-four-countries seat where you own implementations from 'what do you need?' to 2am hotfix. The comp is modest; the ownership and equity are the pitch.
